Abstract:
The conflict between ecological water demand and economic water demand has become critical in the arid regions in northwestern China with the population growth and economic development. The paper addressed the issue of ecological water demand in arid inland river basins.By describing the definition of ecological water demand in arid regions, and combining with RS and GIS technology,a method using the water balance theory was presented to estimate the ecological water demand.Minqin county in Gansu province was exemplified to analyze and forecast the ecological water demand. This study will be beneficial for the proper allocation of water resources in arid regions.
