The characteristics of root growth, nutrient uptake and utilization of a wheat albinism after reviving were studied with an in vitro experiment. The results indicated that photosynthetic rate of the albinism was lower than that of normal wheat during the period of degreening, and overshooted after totally green-recovering. This effect could last to the initial stage of grain-filling. Its shoot biomass and root growth, nutrient uptake of albinism were also lower but its yield showed no difference compared to that of normal wheat. The higher nutrient use efficiency of albinism was closely related with its higher nutrient assimilation rate (the biomass per unit plant nutrient produced). Phosphorus and potassium might possibly involve the mechanism of degreening and green-recovering. |
