Abstract:
Propylaea japonica (Thunberg) is one of important predatory natural enemies in arid and semi-arid area China, especially those preying on younger larvae and eggs of insect pest in orchards and cotton fields. Research advances on the biological and ecological characteristics of P.japonica are summarized in this paper, which includes the variation in elytra color polymorphism, life history, fecundity, appetite, predation, over-wintering habits, artificial rearing technique, and population dynamics under natural conditions. It is suggested on the basis of above that artificial mass-rearing, cold storage and elytra color polymorphism of the beetle should be further researched.
