| The paper demonstrates the construction scale of the silt-arresting dams in the loess plateau mainly depending on its grain demands，total incoming sediment and constructive capacity，pointing out that by 2020 ten million silt-arresting dams will have been built，and of them twenty seven thousand dams will be backbone dams and one hundred and thirty six thousand dams will be silt-arresting dams for farmland；by 2020 four hundred and ninety five thousand hectares of newly built farmland will have been added，two point nine seven million of steep farmland，36％ of the total of eight point two three million slope farmland in the region in 2000，will have been withdrawn from farming．Therefore，the objectives to build silt-arresting dams for farmland to 2020，put forward in the plan to build silt-arresting dams for farmland in the Loess Plateau，are feasible and practical． |
