Selection of amendments is one of the key problems for studying and manufacturing new types of fertilizer such as controlled release fertilizer or slow release fertilizer．This paper introduced the properties and acting mechanisms of different kinds of amendments，such as natural superficial active minerals，humic substances，high molecular polymer and some inhibitors．It also proposes the application prospect of amendments from the viewpoint of nutrient elements availability and ecological environment construction．It may provide theoretical basis for the development of new types of fertilizer．
