Abstract:
The PI and subunits of albumin and globulin extracted from chickpea was studied. The subunit distribution and molecular weights of the total protein, albumin and globulin were analyzed by gel filtration chromatography and SDS-PAGE.The results showed that the PI of the albumin and globulin of Kabuli type seeds were 5.4,4.0;the PI of the albumin and globulin of Desi type seeds were 5.2, 4.0.Eight fractions from the total storage protein of both Kabuli and Desi could be obtained on gel filtration chromatography, respectively, and correspondingly,13 subunit bands could be detected on SDS-PAGE pattern. The subunit distributions of the total protein, albumin and globulin of chickpea were distinct from those of soybean. There were similarity of the subunit band number and molecular weight between Kabuli globulin and Desi globulin, but their albumin subunit band number and molecular weight were different.
