Evaluation of water resources carrying capacity based on GIS techniques in Guanzhong-tianshui Economic Zone

Abstract:
      By using the quantitative analysis method and GIS technology,water resources development potential on grid scale was analyzed in the study area, and also water resources carrying state of all counties in the area was analysed and evaluated. The results showed that:the overall carrying index of water resources in Guanzhong-tianshui Economic Zone, that was 14.19, was high, meaning a high degree of water resources utilization and small development potential. Only in the westem and some southem regions of Guanzhong, the water resources development potential was high. In ad-dition, the phenomenon of water overloading was very serious in the zone, and the average rate of population overloading was 422.40 percent. In most counties, the index of water resources carrying capacity (WCCI) was much greater than 1, meaning the actual population was much more than that the water could carry, while only a few areas, where WCCI was close to or less than 1,belonged to the districts of water balance or surplus. According to water resources carrying condi-tion in different regions,corresponding countermeasures was finally put forward.
