Abstract:
Potential Evapotranspiration plays a practical role in water resources management and regional water re-sources planning and economic development. The objective of this study is to evaluate the potential utility of USGS Global Data Assimilation System (GDAS) reference Evapotranspiration (ET0) products in regional water resources applications by comparing it with Chinese intermational exchange of ground stations climate data over a four year period (2004~ 2007) in Shanxi Province. It showed a close match between the two independent ET0 products. The temporal and spatial corre-spondences in trend between independent datasets were good. It demonstrates the reliability and potentiality of using GDAS reference ET for regional energy balance and water resources management in many parts of the world. GDAS ET0 products have high potential to be used in global drought monitor Hydrological Model.
