Abstract:
Artificial vegetation restoration is one of the most common measures to desertification control. Soil me-chanical composition, physical features, chemical properties and total composition of chemical elements of soils are mea-sured for studying the reversal desertification in Shazhuyu desert control site. The results indicated that artificial vegeta-tion restoration had better impact on the improvemtn of desertified soil. Influenced by vegetation, the soil body configura-tion became more complex gradually, parent material horizon was gradually covered by the leached and illuvial horizon, and sand fixing fommed . The soil suface enriched gradually in fine material,in which the average sand content decreased by 152.47 g/kg,while the average content of clay increased by only 105.64 g/ kg. Soil organic matter, nutrient and CEC increased gradually. The organic carbon content of sandfixing was up to 10.41 g/kg, total nitrogen up to 0.95 g/kg,available nitrogen ψp to 84.7 mg/kg,K ψp to 290.0 mg/ kg, and available P up to 11. 6 mg/ kg. With the reversal of desertification, soil SiO2 was decreased significantly by 100 g/kg,while Al, Fe,Ca,Mg, Ti and Mn were increased gradually by 30% to 60%. Soil performance of preserving mosture and fertility strengthened. Soil reversal desetification process can be divided into four stages : wind blown erosion, sand erosion and deposit balance, sand deposit and soil formation.
