Abstract:
Based on the plentiful information obtained by field-survey, soil sampling and lab analysis were conducted to evaluate the soil fertility in Guanzhong Plain and the Loess Plateau. According to interrelated pri nciples, 5 evaluating indexes were chosen, such as OM, AN, AP, AK and pH. The automatic and quantitative evaluation procedure was realized by adopting the principle of hierarchy analysis and fuzzy mathematics which were supported by GIS tec hniques. The information about the area and the spatial distribution of soil fertility grades in different geomorphic types acquired by fuzzy comprehensive appraisal method revealed a general trend of high soil fertility in northern areas and low fertility in southern areas. The results indicated that the fuzzy appraisal method made the results visual and practical and could provide strong technical support for comprehensive evaluation of soil fertility.
