Abstract:
A field trial was carried out to study the effects of deep maize straw returning on 0~40 cm layer soil fertility and maize yields. Results show that deep maize straw returning can not only improve the physic chemical properties of soil but also improve maize yield. After deep maize straw returning for three years, organic matter content in soils of 0~20 cm has increased by 1.8%~8.38%, The content of available nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium increased by 5.47%~14.66%, 1.33%~1.42%, and 1.77%~5.31%, respectively. By contrast, soil bulk density decreased by 0.75%~4.51%. In addition, these parameters showed similar trand of the soils of 20~40 cm. There was a considerable increase in the maize yields after deep maize straw returning, increased by 4.7% ~8.5%.
