Abstract:
From May to August 2019, a study on sudangrass with a center\|pivot system to assess the effects of variable rate irrigation (VRI) on the yield and quality was conducted at the experimental station of China Agricultural University in Hebei Province. Three management zones (zone 1, zone 2, and zone 3) were delineated according to the difference of soil apparent electrical conductivity (ECa), and treated them with VRI and uniform rate irrigation (URI), respectively. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the annual yield between URI and VRI management (P>0.05), but VRI saved 13.4% water and increased the IWUE by 17.5% than URI did. Especially, for the second cutting in rainy season, the IWUE of VRI increased significantly by 43.8% (P<0.05). In the first cutting, VRI had no significant effect on the crude protein (CP) contents and relative feeding value (RFV) of sudangrass (P>0.05). But, in the second cutting, VRI significantly increased the CP by 9.5% and RFV by 3.5% (P<0.05).
