| Abstract: |
| To assess the applicability of the AquaCrop model in simulating the growth of dwarf rootstock densely planted apple trees under drip irrigation in southern Xinjiang and to determine the optimal irrigation regime for apple growth period, field data (soil water content, canopy cover, crop water consumption, etc.) during 2021-2022 were used for model calibration and validation. The calibrated model was employed to analyze apple yield, water consumption, and water use efficiency (WUE) under five irrigation quotas (360, 450, 540, 630, 720 mm), three irrigation frequencies (15, 20, 25 times), and 15 water allocation scenarios based on apple growth stage\|specific water requirements. The results showed that the canopy cover and yield, determination coefficient (R2) ≥0.94, normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) ≤22.48%, index of agreement (d) ≥0.94, soil water content R2≥0.77, RMSE<19.83 mm, NRMSE≤11.34%, d>0.88,and crop water consumption R2≥0.60, RMSE<0.83 mm, NRMSE≤25.09%, d>0.83, indicating that the model simulation effect was good. Using the AquaCrop\|simulated 15 irrigation scenarios and TOPSIS analysis, the optimal irrigation scheme was identified as a water allocation ratio of 1∶6∶2 (among growth stages), with an irrigation quota of 540 mm and 25 irrigation events, achieving an apple yield of 43 388 kg·hm-2, WUE of 6.89 kg·m-3, and irrigation water use efficiency of 7.63 kg·m-3. These findings provide empirical support for applying AquaCrop in perennial apple tree growth modeling, yield prediction, and field water management, while offering a theoretical basis for optimizing irrigation strategies in southern Xinjiang’s apple production systems. |
