Instructions for Authors
Agricultural Research in Arid Areas ( hereafter shortened as ARAA), superintended by Ministry of Education and sponsored by Northwest Agricultural and Forestry University, is published on the 10th of every single month as the first Chinese core academic journals for Chinese dryland farming launched from 1983 for readers home and abroad.
ARAA primarily publishes original research papers, research reports, review works and research trends on agricultural production in arid, semi-arid, semi-moist and drought-prone areas in northern China, domestic seasonal drought agricultural practice in humid areas and overseas dryland farming on major columns including Expert Forum, Farming and Cultivation, Soil and Plant Nutrition, Water-saving Irrigation and Water Dynamism, Crop Stress-resistance Physiology, Dryland Agricultural Machinery, Drought Monitoring and Forecasting, Dryland Environment and Resources Utilization, etc.
1. The submitted manuscripts should be fact-grounded, scientific and truthful and consisting complete information, reliable data, explicit arguments, adequate evidence, reasonable demonstration and objective evaluation. Research content should be innovative and applied and be fully portrayed with no more than 10,000 words.
2. The author takes sole responsibility for his work and opinions. The manuscripts shall not disclose secrecy or dispute intellectual property. Authors sequencing should be approved by signing authors and parallel submission is unaccepted.
3. Writing form of manuscripts should abide by modes in Presentation of Scientific and Technical Reports, Dissertations and Scientific Papers (GB7714-2005). Submitted manuscripts should be structured in title layer and body parts with the former consisting title, author(s), affiliation, address (including provinces, city, PC), abstract in Chinese, key words in Chinese, CLC, title in English, affiliation and address in English, abstract in English, key words in English; and the latter composed by introduction, material and method, result analysis, conclusion, evaluation, acknowledgement, references and article page footnotes.
4 . Paper format
Title | Title: summarize vital and specific content with precise and concise phrases, avoid formulas, struction or acronyms in the title; Headings: to be consecutively and hierarchically numbered by serial Arabic numerals in less than 3 layers; Eg.:1,1.1,1.1.1;2,2.1, 2.2.1… |
Authors and their affiliation | Authorship should be limited to those who have made a contribution to the selection, design, full or partial execution, or compiling of the study or those accountable to the content interpretation. All co-authors shall approve the number and sequence of subscription; Full name of the authors’ affiliation shall be included together with name of province and city or county and postcodes. Subscription of author and affiliation should keep consistent in bilingual forms. |
Abstract | Abstract needs to be complete and accurate generalization of research with independence and self-evidency. Experimental study includes purpose of study, experiment condition and methods, results analysis and conclusions; Review work includes contents, viewpoints, research findings by the authors, argument and conclusions; Theoretical report includes gist of study, proposed questions, theoretical basis, analytical methods and conclusions. Content and format of abstract should be consistent in bilingual forms. |
Key words | Key words reflect the focal points of the study. 3-8 key terminologies or glossaries of each article should be listed assisted by vocabulary list and reference books. Key words should be consistent in bilingual forms. |
Article page footnotes | First author: name (birth year--), sex, native place, education background, title, research orientation, e-mail. Fund program: accurately list the full name and number of the projects like national, ministerial or provincial fund programs, sci-tech programs, project 863, project 973, key programs or special fund programs; Correspondence author: name, title, research orientation, email. Correspondence authors generally are tutors of the author or program director. |
Introduction | Research significance, progress, existing problems and the research questions of the paper. |
Material and method | Experiment time and period, site, trial range (or sample size), design and methods; experimental materials, reagent, instrument and its source, measurement together with diagrams and illustrations in necessity. |
Result and analysis | Describe and analyze the major research results in different levels according to experiment design and content. Diagrams and data should be full and accurate, content reliable, argument truthful and results rational and credible. |
Conclusion and evaluations | Conclusions: basic information and scientific laws revealed in the study should be summarized on foundation of results and analysis. Evaluations: illustrate the newly derived contributions including mechanism, system, inspirations, experiences and future proposals. |
Figures and tables | Cite either a table or figure to illustrate the same content, Data and tendency in diagrams should keep consistence with that stated in the writing part and all items in the diagram should be coupled with bilingual version Figures: design the figure reasonably with full information of name, quantity on horizontal and vertical axis, unit, cutline and notes of the figure. Size dimension for bar chart: width≤7.5cm (half column), width≤15cm (full column). Pictures should be clear and contrastive and should be enlarged if necessary. Color chart pixel≥3 mega. All cartogram, photos and layouts should be original or facilitated with original data. Tables: simple and clear three-line tables with full information of table number, name, header, content, and notes. |
Unit of measurement | Unit of measurement adopts that in National Standard GB3100-93 and IS1000:1992. Name, symbol and unit of physical quantity should be legally approved and superscripts, upper-or lowercases, block or italics should be clearly prefixed or side-noted. |
Acknowledgement | List the test takers, staff for analysis, examining or observing or those offering related data in acknowledgement. |
References | References adopt the Vancouver encoding system. Mark the reference number in the square bracket at the upper right corner and list all references following their order of appearance in the body part. See the reference template for description format. All references listed should be published and highly relevant to the study, and they should be valid and traceable, ie, the name, publication, publishing time, issue and page numbers could be traced in accordance with the listed information. |
5. Instruction for the authors
1) All submitted manuscripts would receive the treatment feedback within 2 months and parallel submission of same paper is unacceptable. Manuscripts notified of acceptance shall be published as scheduled and the editor-in-charge shall contact the author after soliciting contributions. Remuneration will be paid and 3 sample journals to be delivered after publishing.
2) Copyright Act states that the editorial staff shall have the right to revise and modify the submitted manuscripts or ask the author to do that though its copyright belongs to the author exclusively. The author shall note in the submission if not accept any modification.
3) Copyright royalty of the author is included in the remuneration paid due to the membership of ARAA to CJFD (CAJ-CD), ChinaInfo, VIP, and SBOOR. Remember to inform the editorial department at the time of submission when the author refuse to publish his work in the above media or the journal website for free viewing.
